Fedde is remembered as not being a very pleasant person. Jopie, his granddaughter, never met him. Fedde moved to new cities at least 5 times in his life. He disowned Jopie's father Jan. Hendrika died in 1911 at the mental hospital in Castricum, Noord Holland, reportedly of melancholia.
I sent a request to the hospital for whatever records were available in May 2000. No response. However, an acquaintance in Castricum - the town - was able to get confirmation of her death location and date.)
